Horses are some of the most majestic, loyal, and smartest animals out there. Even if they grew up wild, they can learn to trust and love the humans that train them. The partnership between a horse and her rider is like none other. The horse senses every little gesture and is able to react with grace and precision. Not to mention their beauty.
Well-trained horses can do anything from leaping over high hurdles to galloping across the finish line first with milliseconds to spare, to transporting luggage and materials in rural areas. But one of the most fascinating things that horses can do is dance.
Dressage is the technical term for this very specific sport. While it normally has a fancier vibe to it, that doesn’t mean that trainers can’t apply the same ideas to a down-home country rodeo, too.
This horse, along with some cowboys and cowgirls, loves to dance to some good old fashioned country music. The 1992 Billy Ray Cyrus song, “Achy Breaky Heart” begins to play, and that’s when the magic happens. You see the horse’s feet moving along with the song.
To be fair, it’s hard not to tap your toes to this country classic. Human or horse, you’re sure to catch the Achy Breaky bug and hop into the nearest line dance you see unfolding. It really seems as if the horse is thoroughly enjoying the tunes and the attention.
Surely, this horse doesn’t ever suffer from an achy breaky heart. You can see the gentle touch that the rider has, and how calm the horse is in front of the audience. She doesn’t miss a beat! They definitely make a good team.
Just look at this turn:
All of the steps that this horse is doing are movements that horses know how to do on their own. However, it’s the teamwork, the trust, and the training that’s so awe-inspiring. Imagine the hours that this trainer and her horse spend together forming an unbreakable bond. If you’ve ever owned a horse, you know how strong that bond is!
Recent studies have proven that the communication between horse and human is not a one-way street. It’s so much more than the human repeatedly showing the horse how to behave. One study conducted at Kobe University shows that horses do indeed have a way of communicating with humans.
So, this line dancing partnership is certainly something to marvel at. Whether you’ve had experience with horses or not, you can clearly see the bond that this rider has with the very talented horse.
Can you imagine what it’s like to dance with a horse in front of a clapping arena crowd?
It really must be an experience of a lifetime. I’m sure that Billy Ray Cyrus himself would love the opportunity to partake in this dance, being the true country boy that he is.
The best part of this video, though, is when the rider reaches forward to pat her dance partner on the neck as if to say, “great job, did you have fun?”
That’s the moment that you can see that this horse is not only talented and smart but loved and living a well-rounded life. After a performance like this, I bet she got a yummy carrot or some peppermints as a treat for being such a star out in the ring.
