Not to say that things can’t get always better, but we’re pretty lucky to live in a place like the United States. Especially, when you consider some other countries around the world that are impoverished, unsafe, and/or have little regard for human rights.
Immigrants who have come from less fortunate countries are often proud and grateful every day to live in America.
Humans of New York, a photos series that gained popularity on social media, examines the lives of the diverse population that comes through the city that doesn’t sleep.
A subject that was interviewed for the series last year was an example of an immigrant that couldn’t be happier to live in America.
“I come from Ghana. I’m always smiling. People ask me: ‘Isaac, why are you always smiling?’ I tell them: ‘What else can I do?’ I am so blessed to be in this country. I work in customer service at the CVS on 57th Street and I love it. CVS is the best place that I love so much,” he told Humans of New York.
“I help people with their needs and it makes me so happy. I help them with their coupons. I help them with their medication. People bring me their challenges and I solve their problems. You can say that I am their champion. I am not a citizen. But when I help people with their problems, that makes me part of the community. So I do feel like an American.”
This man’s love of his job can be seen in everything he does and is obvious to those he comes across.
“He is wonderful! I used to live right by the CVS and he was always unfailingly kind, wonderful, helpful and happy.” one person commented on the Human of New York’s Facebook page. “Brightened my day every time.”
“He won a huge award a few years back at our annual region rally and the whole room stood to clap for him,” said another person on Facebook. “There was a huge stack of printed personal customer compliments. We are so lucky to have him!”
“I am his “Captain” as he calls me lol. This is Isaac 24/7 no matter what. He 100% enjoys helping every single customer,” said yet another. “He is very caring and is always smiling. I asked him about the post and he did not know that it was up. When I told him he has over 350k likes, you could hear the excitement in his voice. Let’s get him above 500k before he can see the post! He truly deserve it and more!!!
