Dog Has Clever Way To Avoid Visiting The Vet

November 6th, 2018

Let’s face it: being sick sucks. Dealing with a pounding head and stuffy nose is unpleasant enough as is. Then add in a doctor’s waiting room packed with people coughing and sneezing all over you, and well… you can see why it’s no fun.

We don’t like going to the doctor’s, so it shouldn’t be surprising our pets feel the same way. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (obtained via Wag!), more than half (51%) of all pet owners said their pet was scared of going to the vet— and Lulu? Well, Lulu’s no different.

Lulu is an adorable Shiba Inu who lives with her family in New Zealand. A few years ago, Lulu’s owner Micki Fox posted a video that showcased Lulu’s acting chops, and the pup has been a star ever since.

In the video, Micki is trying to wake Lulu up for a vet appointment.

According to the video’s description, Lulu was scheduled to be spayed and de-sexed— so it was something the poor dog wasn’t looking forward to. Realizing time was running out before the dreaded surgery, Lulu decided to take things into her own hands (err… paws).

As Micki tries to wake Lulu for the appointment, the clever dog plays dead. Splayed on the bed with her eyes closed, she refuses to move a muscle.

“No mom, just leave me. I’ll be fine, I swear” – Lulu, probably.

Although Lulu gives a top-notch performance, Micki isn’t fooled by her dog’s antics. She’s used to Lulu’s silly tricks—but she still has to get to the vet.

Trying every trick in the book to try and make Lulu move, finally, Micki says the magic word that has her doggie jumping.

But what finally got Lulu up and running? You’ll have to watch the video to find out!

As mentioned, many dogs fear going to the vet. It’s an unfamiliar place where they’re poked, prodded, and sometimes held against their will. If you have a dog that’s scared of the vet, the Wag! website lists a few tips:

  1. Give them tons of treats during the experience. Seriously, positive reinforcement works better than you know.
  2. Play an active role in the visit by calming them and speaking in a soothing voice.
  3. If possible, socialize your pet early to get them used to strangers and being touched.
  4. Lastly, relax! It’s possible that stress in owners may transfer onto their pets.

Since being uploaded, Lulu’s Oscar-worthy performance has been viewed 4 million times.

You have to love her dedication— and the way she jumps up at the magic word is hilariously sweet.

“Wow. He’s good. Better than the kids playing sick.”

“She’s better than some actresses in Hollywood!”

“She’s hilarious! Such determination. Can’t resist [magic word] though. Superheroes always have a weakness!”
